Porter Welfare & Ethical Trekking Policy

At Sirmella Adventure, we believe that our porters are the heartbeat of every Kilimanjaro climb. Without their strength and dedication, no summit is possible. We are deeply committed to fair treatment, safety, and respect for every member of our mountain crew.

Our Commitment to Porter Welfare

Fair & On-Time Wages

We pay wages that meet or exceed the standards set by the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). All payments are made directly to the crew at the end of the trek.

Strict Weight Limits

To protect the health of our porters, we strictly enforce a 20 kg (44 lbs) maximum load limit, including their personal gear.

Quality Meals & Housing

Porters receive three nutritious meals daily and sleep in high-quality, weather-proof tents provided by the company.

Proper Gear & Medical Care

Every crew member is equipped with warm layers, waterproof jackets, and sturdy boots. If a porter falls ill or is injured, they receive the same medical evacuation priority as our guests.

Transparency & Respect

We encourage guests to interact respectfully with the crew and participate in our transparent tipping ceremony at the end of the climb, ensuring all gratuities reach the intended recipients.

Combined Trek & Safari Terms

A. The Trek-to-Safari Transition

  • Sequencing: Our itineraries are designed with the Kilimanjaro trek first, followed by the safari. This sequence allows for proper physical recovery. Changes to this order after booking are subject to a $150 USD administrative fee plus any lodge price differences.
  • The “Gap” Logistics: We provide seamless transport from the mountain exit gate to your safari lodge or hotel. Please note that checkout times at mountain hotels are strictly enforced.

B. Health & Safety Protocol

  • Mandatory Briefing: All guests must attend the pre-climb briefing in Arusha or Moshi. Failure to attend may result in a delayed start at the client’s expense.
  • Oxygen & Safety Gear: We carry emergency oxygen and pulse oximeters on every climb. Use of emergency medical supplies is included in your package. However, specialized medications or hospitalizations remain the client’s responsibility.

C. Safari Vehicle & Wildlife

  • Exclusive Use: Unless booked as a join-in group, your safari vehicle is reserved exclusively for your party.
  • Park Regulations: We strictly follow TANAPA and Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) rules. Off-road driving and staying in the parks after 6:00 PM are strictly prohibited.

D. Luggage Management

  • Storage: We provide secure storage for your safari clothing and “clean” luggage while you are on the mountain.
  • Weight Restrictions: Internal bush flights (if included) have a strict 15 kg (33 lbs) limit in soft-sided bags. Excess luggage can be transported by road for an additional fee.
